Israel artillery kills beachgoers

Hamas’ action was prompted by a string of Israeli attacks, including an artillery shell blast that killed at least seven Palestinians picnicking on a northern Gaza beach on Friday.

The IDF said earlier it had been firing on rocket-launching areas in Gaza after a militant attack earlier in the day. The target areas were believed to be uninhabited, a representative said.

Oh, please. If they thought they area was uninhabited, why were they firing on it? Or is this just more weaseldick evasion from Israel, pretending beaches are “uninhabited?” They obviously couldn’t have been bothered to check if innocents were in the area before firing the artillery.

In his Saturday speech, Abbas condemned the beach incident as a “despicable massacre … the Israeli artillery was aimed at children, women — innocent children and women who were sitting on the seashore, on the sea beach having fun on a normal weekend.

“Yesterday, a whole family was murdered, all its members, by the Israeli Defense Forces,” Abbas said.

Global warming ‘leading to genetic changes’

Evidence is growing that climate change is leading to genetic changes that are passed down the generations in animals as diverse as birds, squirrels and mosquitoes, scientists report. “Studies show that over several decades, rapid climate change has led to heritable, genetic changes in animal populations.

Global warming revisionist and right-wing nutcase Jonathan (”Hideous left-wing conspiracies are everywhere”) Hoenig appears to be a tragic example of such genetic mutations. Note his odd facial expression while foaming at the mouth on Fox News announcing, in bold defiance of the facts, that there is no proof of global warming and it’s a conspiracy by Greens who hate ‘advancement’ and want ‘to lead us back to the stone age.’ Greens, of course, favor the technologically advanced hybrid car, but let’s not confuse the addled Mr. Hoenig with an intrusion by reality.

PS His investment company is named Capitalist Pig which seems further proof of serious genetic misfiring.

Teenage terrorists on MySpace?

That’s what our Big Brother government wants you to think.

Pentagon sets its sights on social networking websites

New Scientist has discovered that Pentagon’s National Security Agency, which specialises in eavesdropping and code-breaking, is funding research into the mass harvesting of the information that people post about themselves on social networks. And it could harness advances in internet technology - specifically the forthcoming “semantic web” championed by the web standards organisation W3C - to combine data from social networking websites with details such as banking, retail and property records, allowing the NSA to build extensive, all-embracing personal profiles of individuals.

This of course, has little to do with their purported goal of finding the Evildoers and instead is another noxious attempt to spy on all of us. No, I don’t trust them to do the right thing with the data - and neither should you.

We’ll play music and have militant, political chants throughout the parade. Let’s unite to tell the Bush administration and Congress that we won’t stand for racism, sexism or anti-LGBT bigotry.
