The salary gulf between ‘thin cats’ and ‘fat cats’

The upstairs-downstairs state of Britain’s workforce continues to exist, with the highest-paid workers now earning 16 times the average salary of those at the bottom of the pay ladder, a new report shows.

A mere 16x salary difference is news in the UK. Their top CEOs make about USD $400,000. And they think this is problematic. Meanwhile in the US, CEO salaries of 5-10-20 million (with bonuses and stock options) are not uncommon. Oink, oink, oink.

Travelling and the Net

I’ve been travelling a fair amount lately. Wireless and high speed net access is everywhere; airports, hotels, plus of course all those unsecured wireless nets just waiting to be jumped on. I’ve been online since the pre-Net days of BBS’ing in the early 80’s and it amazes me how ubitquitous the Net is.

Flying demonstrates how useful podcasts are. Rather than watching an inane movie, listen to podcasts of your choosing on your mp3 player instead.

But yikes, travelling this way sure involves lots of wires and plugs and chargers. Notebook PCs, cell phones, and mp3 players require lots of peripheral gear!

In the hotel room I listen to Net Radio, podcasts, or Yahoo LaunchCast (the pay version without the ads that comes with the inexpensive Yahoo Plus.) Nice!
