National Green Party takes aim at both feet

The National Green Party Coordinating Committee has released a public statement condemning Nader/Camejo for allegedly poaching ballot lines in Utah, Vermont, California, and elsewhere.

Even many David Cobb supporters, Cobb being the Green candidate for president, are aghast at this. Coming right before the election, such a blunder will focus unwanted attention on the nasty Nader/Cobb rupture in the Green Party, will delight Democrats who will cheerfully exploit it fully, and will damage the campaigns of local Greens.

Such a statement helps nothing. It does not advance the party, serving only to splinter it further. The incompetence and naivete of those responsible for this is, well, staggering. “Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity.”

The California Green Party disagrees vehemently with the GPUS statement, saying:

The Green Party of California Coordinating Committee disagrees strongly with the intention to release the position statement in GPUS proposal 111 to the public and the press before the upcoming November 2nd election.

Should any GPUS communication, public or private, result from the passage of proposal 111, the Green Party of California requires that such communication explicitly state that the Green Party of California did not concur in the decision.

For the normally rather somnolent Green Party of California Coordinating Committee to a) agree on something this controversial and b) release a sharply worded public statement about it, is quite extraordinary. California has 50% of all registered Greens in the country.

The Bush plan to build tourism in the US by Americans

Miss Monica was in Rome last month for a week vacation. She reports being treated rudely and brusquely - when she spoke English. As a test, she switched to speaking Spanish and suddenly everyone was friendly and helpful. But when her Spanish failed her and she had to revert to English, people instantly became hostile.

Thank you so much, George Bush

BTW, Bush was asked a question about this very topic during the Friday debate and couldn’t have cared less, saying, get used to it. What a moron.

Blocked referrer

Sometimes software firewalls are a little bit too helpful, you ask me.

I’d noticed odd things happening. On one computer, clicking Contacts in Google Gmail would produce nothing. On my other computer, the click worked fine and the Contacts list popped up. The same thing sometimes  happened on other websites too. There was no pattern that I could discern. And no error message.

I discovered I couldn’t post a message online to Radio Userland (this software this blog runs on) using that same computer, but could with the other computer. The error message was “No referrer.” Finally, an error message however cryptic it might be! An email to Radio support solved the problem. Norton Security Firewall had turned off the referrer info, a “feature” many firewalls have.

From Radio Userland, here’s how to fix such errors if you have Zone Alarm Pro and Opera. For those with Norton Security, they point you to a Symantec help page.

The fix for Norton Security is deeply convoluted instructions and only works one site at a time. Anyone know how to default Norton to referrer on, like the other firewalls? If not, maybe it’s time to switch firewalls.
