Walt Sheasby

Walt Sheasby

Long time California Green Party activist Walt Sheasby passed yesterday from West Nile disease, the seventh fatality from West Nile in California this year among 250 reported cases.

He and I were members of the Green Party of Los Angeles County Council a few years back. He was a hardcore “movement” Green and Nader supporter, ran for state office multiple times, and was a passionate Green Party member since the inception of the party.

Here are some of his writings.

Update 8/21:

Activist for Green Party succumbs to West Nile

West Nile info from CDC. They specifically recommend using insect repellent with DEET.

CIA, having failed miserably once,…

CIA, having failed miserably once, tries again

Having failed to find banned weapons in Iraq, the CIA is preparing a final report on its search that will speculate on what the deposed regime’s capabilities might have looked like years from now if left unchecked, according to congressional and intelligence officials.

I’m dumfounded at the stupidity and obvious political overtones of this “report”, which I’m sure will explain how Saddam would have blown up the world eventually - even though he had no WMD’s.

File-sharing systems in legal win

File-sharing systems in legal win

Fans of file-sharing have been handed a significant victory by a US court.

Federal appeal court judges have ruled that the makers of peer-to-peer software are not responsible for what users do with their network.

This is huge! And for 10,000 free completely legal concerts, including 2,500 Grateful Dead concerts, check out Archive.org

Sen Ted Kennedy complains about…

Sen Ted Kennedy complains about being on anti-terror ‘No Fly’ list

One of the best-known U.S. senators says he has been misidentified as someone on a terrorism watch list at airports in recent months.

Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts told the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday that the problem started in March.

The Washington Post quotes a high-ranking administration official as saying the name “T. Kennedy” has been used as an alias by someone on the list of terrorists. The senator is commonly known as “Ted” Kennedy.

Golly, there’s probably only tens of thousands people named “T. Kennedy.” So, instead of doing actual detective work, they just put everyone with that name on the list. What a bunch of dimbulbs.  Do you feel safer now?

Discounts for Peaceful Protestors. I am not making this up!

From NYC Visit

The Peaceful Political Activists visitor program is the first of its kind for a national political convention, and visitors can take advantage of special offers by wearing a Peaceful Protester Welcome button.

Hmm, but if those wearing the Peacful Protestor button decide to march into Central Park without a permit, well golly, they’ve conveniently marked themselves for the police, eh?

Anarchists emerge as the convention’s wild card

As the Republican National Convention is about to begin in New York City, the police are bracing for the actions of this loosely aligned and often shadowy group of protesters, and consider them the great unknown factor in whether the demonstrations remain under control or veer toward violence and disorder and yadda blah blah woof woof.
