The Go Game: San Francisco…

The Go Game: San Francisco Urban Wireless Adventure.

The Go Game is an all-out urban adventure game, a technology-fueled, reality-based experience that encourages hard play and a keen eye for the weird, the beautiful, or the faintly out-of-the-ordinary. The “rule book” is reality, the “board” is your city, and the “pieces” are the players — you and your team.

Through clues downloaded to a wireless device and hints planted in unlikely places, you’ll be guided through a city you only think you’re familiar with. Clues can appear at any time, anywhere. Perhaps you didn’t notice the woman on the bus reading a magazine upside-down. Or the note stuck to the side of the bathroom mirror of your favorite bar, or the electric scooter parked outside with your name on it. After a day of Go, you will.

Slick business [1]

Slick business

This week the media has been thick with reports of the sinking of the oil tanker Prestige off the Spanish Galician coast. There have been many depressing pictures of the damage wreaked by the 3,000 tonnes of viscous sludge now poisoning local beaches and destroying local livelihoods. There has been much speculation about if and when the remaining 70,000 tonnes of oil will come ashore.

Yet very little has been written about the complex web of ownership and control behind the incident. The story that emerges shows once again that Governments and international institutions have utterly failed to ensure proper openness and accountability of the global economy.

And a twisted convoluted tale it is…

Turks, Saudis offer bases to assist war on Iraq.

The Turkish government Tuesday offered the use of its bases in a potential war against Iraq, as U.S. officials confirmed that Saudi Arabia has also agreed to give its long-sought military support, twin moves that could clear the way for a formidable attack on multiple fronts.

L.A. peace news

L.A. peace news

Four major Los Angeles peace coalitions have come together and are working jointly on two major upcoming peace events. They are equally sharing responsibility and planning. This is very good news.

The events are:

Sat Dec 14, 7 PM,  Peace Vigil, Hollywood & Highland.

Sat Jan 11, 11 AM, Mass Rally and March, meet at Olympic and Broadway downtown.

Given that four coalitions will be organizing nonstop for both events, and given the growing numbers of people opposed to the coming war, I expect the peace vigil will draw several thousand people and the rally to be tens of thousands.

The vigil will be on the sidewalks at Hollywood & Highland, deliberately at the peak of Xmas shopping, and should draw major media attention. Bring candles, costumes, banners, etc.

The rally, one of many rallies across the nation that day, is one week before the huge DC & SF rallies on the weekend on Jan 17-18. It will have two feeder marches, one of students, the other of unions, joining it just prior to the mass march to the downtown federal building. There will be music and speakers at all locations during the day.

So, if you live in LA, find a coalition you like and help them organize and get the word out!

Twisted tales of priestly sex…

Twisted tales of priestly sex and drugs

One priest had a history of molesting boys, another maintained a “double life” with his girlfriend and a third supplied cocaine to a teen-ager with whom he was having sex — but the Archdiocese of Boston gave all three men new jobs even though it knew of their records.

Secret to Hide

Secret to Hide

Updated lyrics to “Ticket To Ride,” by Lennon/McCartney

The nation’s gonna be had.
I think it’s today, yeah.
That Bush he’s driving me mad
With Henry the K.

He’s got a secret to hide,
He’s got a secret to hide,
He’s got a secret to hide,
And I smell fear.

Mayberry Machiavellis: The saga continues.

Mayberry Machiavellis: The saga continues.

Ah, ’tis your typical DC story.

Boy is Jesus freak and loves governor. Boy helps governor get elected president. Boy works for the president. Boy quits in disgust. Boy vents to a reporter, calling his former employers “Mayberry Machiavellis”. White House snaps its fingers. Kneecaps are broken. Boy recants and issues bizarre apology.

Ahh, but unlike the spineless rags that abdicate their journalistic responsibilities, Esquire (who is running this story) has no interest in backing down in the face of White House pressure. And this is where the story gets interesting.

“The Bushies were not amused and strongarmed an “apology” from DiIulio — an apology, curiously, issued not by him, but by his employer — the University of Pennsylvania. (The conspiracy theorists will have a field day with this one…)

Lots more too, from the always excellent Daily Kos.
