The new Politics in the…

The new Politics in the Zeros
We are now up and running under Radio UserLand blogging software.  This is some cool stuff.  News feeds running both ways.  Perma-links.  Ease of publishing.  No Microsoft.  Lots more.  Which means better content on this site.

The conversion went well except for a little blip when FrontPage (what the site had been coded in) insisted that UserLand could not have the Home Page.  This little blip took several hours to figure out and requiring tweaking stuff on the server at the ISP.  Needless to say, calm collected computer professional that I am, I took this all in stride, and only wanted to throw the computer out the window once.

However, all is well now!

TIPS getting tapped out

TIPS getting tapped out
The noxious
spy-on-your-neighbor TIPS program appears to be slithering off to die unmourned in a forgotten corner. At least one hopes so.

“As far as I can see, the TIPS idea is nothing but a big PR operation to make it look like the Justice Department is doing something significant to attack terrorism,”

The Bush Administration has tried to gain support by promising that private homes will be off limits to snooping. But it may be too late. Congressional leaders in both parties are backing legislation to stop TIPS in its tracks.

We all need to make sure this program gets dead and stays dead.  And conservatives were as equally outraged by TIPS as lefties.

Hey, maybe Dubya IS bringing the country together after all!

Bush May Drop Simon

The fate of Republican Bill Simon’s troubled campaign for governor in California and President Bush’s hopes to capture the state in 2004 could be decided next week when a new private poll is released, according to a published report Friday.

The Washington Times reported that the Simon campaign has authorized the survey, which will be paid for by the Republican National Committee.

“The president will have access to the poll by the first of next week and will know whether Simon’s candidacy is still viable,” a source close to the White House and the Simon campaign told the Times. “If not, I expect Bush to walk after Labor Day.”

*Angelyne to run for proposed…

Angelyne to run for proposed Hollywood City Council!

If you don’t live in L.A. you probably have no idea who Angelyne is.  Well, she is famous for being famous, for driving pink Corvettes, and for having her photo on billboards for no apparent reason.  We hope this clear things up.

Now she is providing some badly needed absurdity to the Hollywood / Valley secession movements as
she is running for City Council for the proposed Hollywood City.

In an interview, she insisted she is serious about making Hollywood better. “I’m Angelyne. I’m the image of Hollywood. I want Hollywood to rise to my occasion,” she said.

She said she had no trouble getting the 20 signatures needed to qualify for the Nov. 5 secession ballot. She stepped onto the sidewalk with her petition and was surrounded by fans eager to sign.

“I’ve never really thought about politics,” she said. “I had an overwhelming request from all sorts of committees and people to run.”  Asked whether Hollywood could use a makeover, the platinum-blond candidate said, “My answer to that is, ‘Duh.’ “
