As the world burns

There are droughts worldwide now, with the US southwest and southeast suffering badly from them. TomDispatch has a long, thoughtful post about this asking, what happens if water really does run out somewhere? And doesn’t come back?

How bad is the economy getting?

This bad. The CEO of Wells Fargo said housing is at its worst since the Great Depression, while Goldman Sachs warned the credit crisis may force a $2 trillion cut in lending, triggering a ‘substantial recession.”

Our heating oil bill arrived today

$3.23 a gallon.  Last year it was $1.95.  It’s about 130 gallons to fill it up. So that’s $160 more (for about 6 weeks of heating.) We can afford it. Lots of people in New England won’t be able to.…
