Pentagon appoints deeply clueless right wing fundamentalist to find bin Laden
The Pentagon has assigned the task of tracking down and eliminating Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and other high-profile targets to an Army general who sees the war on terrorism as a clash between Judeo-Christian values and Satan.
Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin said ‘radical Islamists hated the United States “because we’re a Christian nation, because our foundation and our roots are Judeo-Christian and the enemy is a guy named Satan.” ‘
I’m just stupefied by this. His juvenile cartoonish view of the world would be comical if the results of it weren’t going to be so tragic. His blundering words guarantee increasing unrest in the Mideast, which will mean more dead US troops. Plus those opposing us will use his incendiary comments as an organizing tool to gain more supporters — while they howl in laughter at us for being so stupid.
The general elucidates a sophisticated theological point.
Discussing the battle against a Muslim warlord in Somalia, Boykin told another audience, “I knew my God was bigger than his. I knew that my God was a real God and his was an idol.”
Jesus stole the 2000 election for Dubya!
In June, Boykin said of President Bush: “He’s in the White House because God put him there.”
To state the obvious
Boykin’s appointment “is a frightening blunder at a time that there is widespread acknowledgment that America’s position in the Islamic world has never been worse.”
Plus, anyone who is looking for Satan as the real enemy, I’m guessing, isn’t going to be real effective in finding actual enemies. The mere fact that he was appointed to do this speaks volumes about the extreme right wing fundamentalist culture of the White House.
