When you’re 80, just hope…

When you’re 80, just hope you’re this alive

The Fugs were a legendary band from the Lower East Side in the 60’s. You might call them the link between the Beats and Hippies. Funny, profane, horny, pacifist, they mixed William Blake poetry with sex, drugs, and protest. They could be completely off the wall and serious at the same time.

Back then, they had a major influence on my tender young psyche, and I thank them for it. They showed that protest can be a howling good time as well as the right thing. Their "Kill for Peace" remains one of the best, funniest antiwar songs anyone has done.

Now, all these years later, they’re releasing their final CD titled The Fugs Final CD (Part 1).

And imagine this, the NY Times has a story about them, interviewing original members Ed Sanders and Tuli Kupferberg. Tuli just turned 80 and he’s not mellowed much or sold out. Thanks for the inspiration, Fugs!
