Turning left on red is…

Turning left on red is part of driving culture in L.A.!

Turn left on red? Say what, you say?

An explanation; on those traffic lights in L.A. without left-turn signals, cars stack up in the intersection, and when the light turns red, they quickly skedaddle, making that left before they get broadsided.

To add to the festivities, cars partly in the intersection, or sometimes not even in the intersection at all, often make a left – again, after the light has turned red.

We’re used to this, however, for some bizarre reason it totally unnerves newcomers to L.A. traffic to see 5 cars turn left after the light has turned red. Imagine.
