Molly Ivins gets it right
Both about the Democrats and about what’s coming next
…the Democrats deserved to lose. What a gutless campaign. It’s one thing to point out that the economy is a mess; it’s another to have no useful plan whatever to offer. How could they let themselves be buffaloed by Republicans on taxes, with all the facts and fairness on their side?
Further, any party so brain-dead it can’t even make an issue out of Enron and corporate sleaze deserves to be out of office. <italics added>
One reaction to electoral disaster should be avoided at all costs: it’s that annoying radical mantra, “Things have to get worse before they can get better.” The only possible response to that bit of specious thinking is, “Not with my child’s life.” It is indubitably true things are about to get worse…The only recourse is to fight them smart and hard. Giving them enough rope to hang themselves with just means we all hang along with them. Sharpen wits and man the battle stations. No time to waste feeling sorry for ourselves.
As Bob Marley said, “Get up, stand up, stand up for your rights”.
As Joe Hill said, “Don’t mourn, organize”.
PS In her book, Shrub, Ivins, a progressive, Texan, and long time Bush-watcher said about Bush that he’s no mental giant however he unquestionably has an inherent, natural grasp for the rough and tumble of politics. She also said in person he is very difficult to dislike. People laughed and said she was wrong. I doubt they’re still laughing.
