Storing thermal energy in concrete

Storage of solar power in concrete starts with the collection of heat in solar panels. The heat is then transferred through steel pipes into concrete, which absorbs the heat and stores it until it can be transferred to a generator.

Apparently this is widely done in Europe but not yet here in the States. However Coastal Concrete Homes in Mississippi builds homes out of concrete, using the thermal storage to provide heat.

Biodigester. Cooking fuel from cow manure

This biodigester produces enough cooking gas for a family in Costa Rica from manure from grass-fed cows. That means they don’t have to buy gas they can barely afford and have to travel long distances to get. Seems like this could be used all over the world.

Here’s how it works, with full instructions on how to build one. Thomas Carmona spent two years there helping build them and blogs about that and related matters at GreenEnergyVideos.

On the to-do list

I’m wearing an ‘Impeach Bush’ t-shirt in the photo on the About Page here, and I also use that photo for a multitude of social networking sites. But such sentiments obviously have a seriously limited remaining life span of relevance, so I’ll be needing a new photo soon.
