Complete transcript of Clinton’s concession speech

Right here. Some excerpts.

Could a woman really serve as Commander-in-Chief? Well, I think we answered that one.

And could an African American really be our President? Senator Obama has answered that one.

Although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it’s got about 18 million cracks in it.

I endorse him, and throw my full support behind him. And I ask all of you to join me in working as hard for Barack Obama as you have for me.

It’s onward to the White House and President Obama. Anyone who thinks that either a President Hillary Clinton or President Barack Obama wouldn’t be orders of magnitude less reactionary than Bush is living in a Leftist gloomscape. Sometimes things do get better. This is one of those times. The expectations that Obama will raise will provide huge opportunities for progressive change - but progressives need to take full advantage of them. Forget the doom, gloom, and bunker mentality. We have major openings for change coming.

Why Google rules

We recently moved to San Francisco and have been learning how the mass transit system works. We needed to get from our place to a restaurant in the city to meet friends, which entails using two systems, BART and Muni. But neither of their websites links in to the other, making planning a trip difficult.

Google Maps though, makes it simple. Enter the start and end address, it maps the route for driving. Then click the “Public Transit” link next to “Drive”, and it maps the entire route using BART and Muni.

Why today’s populist uprising could be great for progressives

From David Sirota, author of The Uprising: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington, blogging at Firedoglake.

Obama has one foot firmly planted inside the establishment and has presented himself as having one foot outside the establishment, and the question remains whether he is a candidate who used the pretense of insurgency to be another establishment stooge or whether he is the real deal? I think he’s the real deal - but we will need a full-fledged social movement to make sure of it.

Imagine if all the populist movements; urban, rural, Left, Right, could find common ground. Then we’d have something powerful indeed. Obama, whether he wants to or not, is unleashing a populist upsurge. Sirota is correct. We need to take advantage of it.

Greedy greedy greedy

Several young investment bankers thought they’d be clever and hatched a complicated plan to profit on insider information. Now they’re going to prison. The two apparent ringleaders worked at Goldman Sachs and were probably already making 6 figures, maybe more.

So why the piggery? They, by most any standards, already had it made.

Sue is a CPA and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) and says, “why does someone with $500 million try to steal $10 million from someone else. I don’t know, but it happens all the time.”

Sometimes the pig gets fat. Other times, like this, they get slaughtered. What tripped them up? The FBI and SEC started watching their transactions because they were unusual and overly profitable.
