Is it greener to be on or off the grid?

power lines

AsymptoticLife, who is increasingly off the grid, says maybe it’s greener to be on the grid rather than totally off it, because then you can feed excess energy back into it so others can use it too.

Indeed. If millions of households created their own renewable energy with solar, wind, hydro, and sent the extra back to be used by anyone, then far fewer old school, carbon-spewing power plants would be needed.

Red Squirrel’s Lair

squirrels

A wondrous new commie blog, Red Squirrel’s Lair, is born.

Sample (from a long, thoughtful post on Rosa Luxemborg and real democracy within a vanguard party.)

The underlying rationale of sectarians is that, if the revolutionaries of old were right to abandon obsolete, revisionist, opportunist, add-negative-adjective-here political formations in order to more efficiently pursue their political objectives, then it is right for them to do so as well. The result is well known to all of us: a huge number of wee sects are squabbling over theoretical matters while the combined forces of the bourgeoisie free indulge into more imperialist plunder and domestic exploitation.

Point well taken.
