Global warming report to warn of drought, flooding

The harmful effects of global warming on daily life are already showing up, and within a couple of decades hundreds of millions of people won’t have enough water, top scientists will say next month at a meeting in Belgium. At the same time, tens of millions of others will be flooded out of their homes each year as the Earth reels from rising temperatures and sea levels, according to portions of a draft of an international scientific report obtained by The Associated Press.

The political ramifications of this are immense. What happens when millions of people no longer have homes, when major port cities worldwide are flooding, when millions more don’t have enough water? No doubt many of them will get extremely angry at their governments for not doing enough. Serious political radicalization will occur and governments will fall. The Haves will barricade themselves from the Have-Nots and dispossessed as millions wander looking for new places to live. Entire economies will be disrupted, maybe fatally.

This is the world that is coming.

Why you should fall to your knees and worship a librarian

From Librarian Avenger (I’ve linked to this before, but hey, this net classic is always worth mentioning)

Ok, sure. We’ve all got our little preconceived notions about who librarians are and what they do. Many people think of librarians as diminutive civil servants, scuttling about “Sssh-ing” people and stamping things. Well, think again buster.

Look it up. Librarian Avenger
