Dems continue to support war while pretending not to

Sen. Biden, who is supposed to be liberal, says golly there’s just no way to stop Bush from having troops in Iraq indefinitely and we just don’t want to go mucking about blocking funding because that would be tacky.

Actually Senator, there is a way. Like Vito Corleone in The Godfather said to his whimpering godson Johnny Fontaine, “you can act like a man.”

Lat time I checked, only Congress has the authority to start wars, and they can also stop funding them. All that’s needed is resolve. But that would be bad for the economy and campaign contributions. “There’s plenty good money to be made / By supplying the Army with the tools of the trade.”

Politicians come and go. The real problem is the military industrial complex and the craven, complicit politicians they support and control.

Vermonters ask: Where’s winter?

Crosskate

To demonstrate that climate change is happening, some Vermonters went inner tubing in a river in January. As one who has spent considerable time in Vermont during the winter, I can say this is beyond unusual.

This overly warm Vermont weather, it’s said, is in part due to an El Nino condition as well as global warming. However El Nino’s can be triggered by global warming.

A growing number of scientists are looking to see how global warming may be altering the typical El Nino patterns. Once happening every five to seven years, they are now happening every two to three years, and are often longer in duration and more intense.

Vermont gets much its money from tourism and skiing, with the Christmas / New Years week often being make-or-break time for ski areas. This Xmas season was unusually warm, with little or no snow, and that means the ski areas took a major financial hit.

Looking at Vermont ski area conditions, a few are completely closed (in January!) and virtually all the rest are operating with a greatly reduced number of trails and lifts open.

This is just one example of how global warming impacts entire areas and industries. And if it stays too warm, the maple syrup won’t flow this season either.

Global warming will become a major political issue in the next few years as climate change affect us all in a multitude of probably unexpected ways. We need solutions. Now.

War and comedy

BlairWatch details why a Middle East war is coming while the Democrats, instead of saying bring the troops home now, issue a mealy-mouthed no money for escalation without justification, whatever that means. Yeah Speaker Pelosi, principled stands like that will sure end the war, you betcha.

Meanwhile, in the Port of Miami, three Middle Easterners were held in a “comedy of errors” because Deputy Goober, without the slightest evidence, thought they might be Dangerous Terrorists. I bet the three thought the whole thing was just a laff riot after the Keystone Cops finally released them…

Feel safer yet?
