$1200 for a keyboard?

It’s completely programmable, and the keys will display whatever you’ve programmed them to be. There are extra keys for switching applications too.

But you can buy a nice computer for that price…

Hippie peaceniks 1, Forces of evil 0

All the members of a homeowners association in Colorado that demanded a couple remove a wreath from their door because it was shaped like a peace symbol have resigned.

The peace symbol wreath is still there.

Castro too ill to attend 80th birthday gala

This after the party was postponed for two weeks to give him more time to recover. He’s not been seen in public for four months and details of his illness have not been made public.

It’s becoming obvious Castro will not ever be back on the job and probably doesn’t have long to live. How the transition of power is handled is key to the stability of Cuba. The US will of course try to “bring democracy” there, and with an enfeebled leader, all sorts of currents and power plays are probably already occurring.

My guess: There will be major changes, but their socialist system will remain intact.

It was just hoodwinking, I tell you

Former treasurer of the city of South Gate CA Albert Robles was sentenced Tuesday to ten years in federal prison for “plundering more than $20 million from the small, working-class city.”

At the sentencing hearing, his lamo defense was, “I didn’t think hoodwinking was a crime.” Well, given the definition of hoodwinking is “deprive somebody of something by deceit,” it sure sounds like it could be a crime too.

Maybe he should have tried “youthful exuberance” as his rationale instead…

The dog ate my QuickBooks

The brother of the mayor of Philadelphia has been accused of influence peddling and  indicted for failure to pay taxes on $2 million. Oopsie.

He’s using the time-honored if flimsy excuse of poor record keeping which is somewhat akin to getting a ticket for doing 100 mph on the freeway and then claiming innocence because you “forgot” to look at the speedometer.

Inept excuses like this make forensic accountants giggle.

EU nations ‘knew of CIA prisons’

The countries knew about the prisons operating on European soil, “co-operated actively or passively” with the CIA, then lied about it and tried to cover it up, says the draft of a report to the European Parliament.

The countries include Britain, Poland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and possibly Poland. How other counties have them? What has happened to the prisoners?

Is the CIA global empire of prisons now larger than the gulags of Stalin?

NYC mayor Bloomberg makes $1 billion per year

On Nov. 21, the New York Sun … estimated that Bloomberg has made $1 billion annually while serving as the city’s top decision-maker.

The same day, the New York City Coalition Against Hunger released its newest data: one in six city residents lack sufficient food.

Something is wrong here.

Tip for wannabe crime lords

If you’re aiming for the big leagues of crime, don’t conduct multi million dollar deals via email and IM. This is, in a word, dumb.
