Neo-Thatcherite Angela Merkel will probably become German chancellor
after a close hard-fought election. However, the SPD made her pay a
price.
The SPD has
come out of the deal with eight cabinet seats - two more than the CDU -
and control of the foreign, finance, justice, labour, health,
transport, environment and international development ministries.
