LAVoice hacked

The excellent LAVoice.org has been hacked and is offline.

Makes no sense to me, mangling a vibrant, intelligent website.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, LAVoice!

The police lied about Menezes’ death

Just when you think police can’t get any slimier, can’t lie more, can’t be more racist, comes this.

Brazilian was held before being shot
Police failed to identify him
He made no attempt to run away

The young Brazilian shot dead by police on a London tube train in mistake for a suicide bomber had already been overpowered by a surveillance officer before he was killed, according to secret documents revealed last night.

It also emerged in the leaked documents that early allegations that he was running away from police at the time of the shooting were untrue and that he appeared unaware that he was being followed.

But the evidence given to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) by police officers and eyewitnesses and leaked to ITV News shows that far from leaping a ticket barrier and fleeing from police, as was initially reported, he was filmed on CCTV calmly entering the station and picking up a free newspaper before boarding the train.

It has now emerged that Mr de Menezes:

  • was never properly identified because a police officer was relieving himself at the very moment he was leaving his home

  • was unaware he was being followed

  • was not wearing a heavy padded jacket or belt as reports at the time suggested|

  • never ran from the police

  • and did not jump the ticket barrier.

But the revelation that will prove most uncomfortable for Scotland Yard was that the 27-year-old electrician had already been restrained by a surveillance officer before being shot seven times in the head and once in the shoulder.

Does anyone believe this would have happened in Menezes was Anglo? Well, of course not. Out-of-control Gestapo shot a quite innocent Brazilian man in the head then lied about it. Will they go to prison? One hopes so. And may this bring down Blair.

How many more will die in this insane war?

From the Dropkick Murphys

We have had an amazing response to the song “Last Letter Home” from the new album “The Warrior’s Code”. For those of you who don’t know the story behind this track we had already written a song that was based on general correspondences to & from the soldiers serving in Iraq, when we were contacted by the family of Sgt. Andrew Farrar who had recently died while serving there.

The family wanted to tell us he was a big supporter of the Dropkick Murphys. They also passed on a letter that he had written to his mother shortly before his death in which he thanks her for sending him a Dropkick Murphys CD & said that if anything should happen to him while in Iraq, he would like one of our songs played at his funeral.

He also left behind a wife, Melissa and two young boys Tyler & Liam. His tour of duty in Iraq was coming to an end & he was due to come home & renew his wedding vows with Melissa to another song of ours, “Forever”. Sgt. Farrar died on January 28th, on his 31st birthday.

We were present at his funeral to grant his wish and played “Fields of Athenry” as his casket entered the church. The song “Last Letter Home” was re-written to include excerpts from that letter.

A fund has been set up to benefit Andrew’s family and children, if you would like to make a donation please send checks to;

Global warming to boost Scots farmers

Climate change could be good news for Scottish farmers, according to ESRC funded research at the University of Stirling. Rising temperatures and increased CO2 levels could mean increased yields and a boost to local economies.

I’m guessing this is not such good news for farmers south of Scotland, unless maybe French farmers decide to grow bananas or cactus instead.

Cindy Sheehan: I won’t pay tax

As she continues her anti-war protest, Cindy Sheehan is labeling President Bush a “maniac” and a “lying bastard,” and she’s vowing not to pay her federal income tax.

She spoke at an ANSWER LA rally on March 19, and will be speaking on Sept. 24 at the ANSWER antiwar rally in D.C. She is anti-imperialist and supports the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, the right demonstrates their respect for Americans killed in Iraq.

The campsite has close to a thousand white crosses, each representing GIs who, like Sheehan’s son Casey, were killed in Iraq.

Monday night, a pickup truck tore through the rows of white crosses
.

The right is also doing their best to savage and discredit her, with some of the nut-case right blogosphere being especially vile, which only demonstrates how effective she’s been.

Someone who has been to Crawford tells me there were 600 antiwar protestors there, and almost all of them were Texans.

Squeak, squeak, squeak

Democrats Will Not Fight Roberts. “Democrats have decided that unless there is an unexpected development in the weeks ahead, they will not launch a major fight to block the Supreme Court nomination” of John Roberts, the Washington Post reports.

Their ‘reasoning’ is, welly golly, it would be a hard fight and we might lose, so let’s not try at all. This from the alleged opposition party.

So what WILL the Democrats fight for, then?
