Spammer spannered

Russia’s most (in)famous spammer, Vardan Kushnir, 35, was dead in his apartment in downtown Moscow on Monday, July 25. Someone repeatedly smashed his head with a heavy object, authorities say, and then ransacked his entire apartment. The authorities have obviously got no clue as to who that someone might have been.

And, as a matter of fact, they don’t seem to really care … But the Moscow-based media is awash with comments and speculations, expounding one simple, albeit largely irrational, theory: someone (ranging from God almighty to an irate IT office worker) finally punished Vardan Kushnir for his seemingly unstoppable spamming activities.

Russian-language media, both online and offline, has made little effort to conceal one central thought when dealing with the spammer’s demise: that somehow the late Mr. Kushnir got what he deserved.

Rumors he is in a special Hell where he must eternally consume bogus penis enlargement pills are unconfirmed.

Bush to sell nukes to India, fighter planes to Pakistan

The U.S. continues to be the biggest arms dealer on the planet.

Bush pushes India nuclear deal

The agreement, announced July 18 after Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met President Bush at the White House, upends decades-old nonproliferation rules and will require changes in U.S. law and international policy.

With the new deal, the United States in effect accepts India as a nuclear-weapon state.

While at the same time, they threaten sanctions and invasion against Iran for developing nuclear facilities, but it’s not like India has always been a staunch ally. And even if they were, why India and why now?

Pakistan: U.S. to provide ‘largest supply’ yet of F-16 jets

India had expressed concern to Washington about its proposed sale of F-16s to Pakistan.

Death of John Garang in Sudan

Angry supporters of John Garang riot and fragile peace is shaken after helicopter crash.

Deep in the article is this tidbit

Garang, who received undergraduate and doctoral degrees in Iowa, used his charisma to rally support from Washington and conservative Christian groups in America.

Makes you wonder just how homegrown his insurgency was, and what the real goals are. Yes, I’m suspicious of any local movement aided and abetted by neocons.

Two-thirds believe London bombings are linked to Iraq war

Two-thirds of Britons believe there is a link between Tony Blair’s decision to invade Iraq and the London bombings despite government claims to the contrary, according to a Guardian/ICM poll published today.

Now Blair is saying he never said there wasn’t a link, when of course, he said precisely that.

Brit soldiers may refuse to serve over war crimes threat

British soldiers will refuse to serve in Iraq if they face the threat of being prosecuted for war crimes, serving and former service personnel warned last night.

Drat those pesky war crimes allegations. Hey, if you don’t want to be prosecuted for war crimes, then don’t commit them.
