"Extraordinary rendition"

And what might “extraordinary rendition” be? A superb version of a classic song or symphony, perhaps?

Well no, it’s the latest Happy-Face-sounding phrase from the neocons, all scrubbed-up and squeaky-clean, to describe odious criminal behavior which they sanction.

Extraordinary rendition is when “American counter-terrorism agents seize and transport suspects to third countries without seeking court permission” where they sometimes are tortured, according to the L.A. Times.

“Seize and transport” of course is just another way of saying “kidnapping.”

Uniting the Left

The Topanga Peace Alliance is sponsoring a series of forums in L.A. on uniting the Left. They are a great, active group, are at every antiwar demonstration, enthusiastic, with their huge banner flying.

Santa Monica City Councilmember Kevin McKeown addressed one of these forums, and posted a short video. He spoke of how antiwar sentiment has gone mainstream now, and that we do enjoy broad-based support. However, the electoral system is broken, and public funding of campaigns and proportional representation are the solutions to a system where corporations and big money dictate the rules.

Kevin, a friend, is also a member of the National Committee of the Green Party and the Co-ordinating Committee of the Green Party of California. Would it be that all elected politicians were as hard-working and ethical as he is. If we work at it, maybe one day they will be.

More on the tuxedo lesbian

As reported before, a small Florida school banned graduating senior Kelli Davis from appearing in the yearbook in in a tuxedo.

In a heartening move, many people in the community supported her right to do so.

More than half of the 24 people who addressed the controversy supported using Davis’ picture in the yearbook, some applauding after Cindi Davis, the teen’s mother, asked the board “What is so offensive about this tiny picture?”

What’s more, her parents spent $700 for a two page yearbook ad and her photo will appear there!
