The tributes and remembrances roll in

Hunter S ThompsonHunter S. Thompson (1939-2005)

“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.”

From PC Mag columnist Joh Dvorak

I can’t say I was pals with Thompson, but I knew him and chatted with him a lot when he was writing for the SF Examiner. Among other things I helped move him off the typewriter to computer assisted writing in the 1980’s. “OK, so computers are our friends then?” he once said to me. I think this was after he shot one.

Well put

Hunter S. Thompson, 1939-2005

He was my big, bad brother. He was too dangerous to love, but I looked up to him. He gave lie to the contradiction between “crazy” and “true”. He died most fittingly, in a gun fight with his most vicious enemy.

Another one bites the dust

From a friend, Michael Mitchell

This morning I will go across the street to The Seal Rock Inn where he lived whilst finishing Fear and Loathing and I will order Corned-beef hash with poached eggs; his favourite breakfast. I will try to forgo his other main food group VODKA but I will toast to the memory of a true American original.

Happy trails, Hunter.
