Quake stats

According to Hubble This, a EMS listserv, NASA says the quake that caused the tsunami “moved the north pole 1 inch, shortened earth day by 3 miscoseconds, and made the earth rounder.’

25 ton boulder in road

That huge boulder that rolled into Topanga Canyon Blvd..in L.A. blocked a major secondary route over the canyons between the San Fernando valley and Santa Monica. The resulting traffic jams must be monumental.


The mudslides and deaths so far are horrendous, and more may be coming. Once things dry out a bit, well, that’s when ground made unstable by the rains may slip more.

Politics and tsunamis

Indonesia warned the thousands of aid workers providing relief to earthquake and tsunami victims in devastated Aceh province on Tuesday not to venture beyond two large cities because of militant threats

The government of Indonesia, like that of Sri Lanka, is actively blocking aid and help from reaching their own citizens, if those citizens happen to live in areas where insurgents are numerous. And you can be assured the governments are stealing as much of the relief supplies as they can. Yuck.

Why oh why do they hate us?

A US warplane mistakenly dropped a 500-pound bomb yesterday on a house in a village near the northern city of Mosul, killing several Iraqis, according to witnesses and the US military.


When this story originally broke, US military of course denied it happened. Do they ever tell the truth unless forced to?
