The Cobb/Badnarik forces raised the $110,000 needed for a recount in Ohio. They now need $100,000 more for the mobilization effort. The Green and Libertarian party presidential candidates joined togeher to do this!
Ralph Nader wired $2,000 to force a manual recount of the ballots just before the deadline expired.
The Democrats continue their slumber.

Write-in surfer may be next San Diego mayor

Donna Frye, environmentalist, owner of a surf shop, and wife of surf legend Skip Frye, launched a write-in campaign for mayor of San Diego five weeks before the election.
The current vote count shows her 1,800 votes ahead of incumbent mayor Dick Murphy. For an incumbent to be losing to a write-in candidate simply shows the voters of San Diego are tired of the growth-at-any-costs, often quite corrupt politics of San Diego.
Naturally the Republicans are howling in outrage - how dare the voters do this - and have filed two lawsuits, one of which got slapped down by a judge yesterday. Get this, one of the Republican lawsuits actually wanted the vote count stopped! God forbid the will of the voters be fulfilled.
It’s a home-grown insurgency

Judging from fighters captured in Fallouja, all but about 5% are Iraqi, U.S. officials say.
As for the taking of Fallouja, which the US has been boasting about, well, they haven’t really taken it nor did the bulk of the insurgents stay and fight. In classic guerilla warfare tactics, they retreated as the larger force advanced, leaving enough fighters behind to inflict serious damage on the Americans.
This 5% figure gives lie to the oft-babbled statements from the neocons that the Iraq insurgency was mostly outsiders. Just more of their lies.

Did you notice the front page of the L.A. Times on Saturday? The one with the Marines relaxing INSIDE the mosque in Fallujah? Stretched out, with rubble all around them, in their boots? (Most mosque, IIRC, have the faithful take their shoes off before entering.) Then today we had another picture, buried deep in the first section, with a Marine officer or NCO squatting on the prayer rugs in his boots, instructing his men. What’s the matter with the morons? Do they have NO clue as to the message that such a picture sends to the Muslim world?
“Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity” could certainly apply here, however the insults do seem deliberate, don’t they?
(If I”d been the commander, I would have found a bunch of brooms, cordoned off the area, and sent the locals in with a bunch of brooms to clean up the area and get it ready for prayer.)
If Iraqis invade an American city and set up camp at the altar of a church and used the vestments for tents, you can bet that Americans would be furious. How can we expect the Muslims to be any different from ourselves in reacting to intrusions into their religious buildings?
