A party is born

A party is born

The Party for Socialism and Liberation

The PSL is a working class party of leaders and activists from many different struggles, founded to promote the movement for revolutionary change.

Capitalism – the system in which all wealth and power is held by a tiny group of billionaires and their state – is the source of the main problems confronting humanity today: imperialist war, poverty, exploitation, layoffs, unemployment, racism, sexism, lesbian/gay/bi/trans oppression, environmental destruction, mass imprisonment, unionbusting, and more.

We are fighting for socialism, a system where the wealth of society belongs to those who produce it, the working class, and is used in a planned and sustainable way for the benefit of all. In place of greed, domination and exploitation, we stand for solidarity, friendship and cooperation between all peoples.

They will be holding public meetings across the country with the theme “Imperialist War, Capitalist Crisis and the Need for Revolutionary Change.”

Meetings, so far, are scheduled for SF, Seattle, and LA, with more coming.

The first issue of their monthly magazine is an impressive 58 page full-color glossy with well-written articles on U.S. issues, Iraq, Cuba, Latin America, and more.

I know several PSL founding members - hardcore, tireless activists all - some of whom have been organizing for decades. PSL will be around and active for a long time to come, trust me on this!

Baghdad Burning is back.

Baghdad Burning is back.

Baghdad Burning is blogged by an eloquent Iraqi woman living in Baghdad who writes in perfect English. She was offline for six weeks, and I was worried about her. However she’s back, saying the heat and a death in the family had kept her away.

It’s over 110 every day now in Baghdad. On a good day, the power stays on for twelve hours; on a bad day, only eight.

Cemeteries are overflowing, medical care is scarce, and everyone knows someone who has been abducted.

Smart dancing in the streets

Smart dancing in the streets

John Perry Barlow proposes dancing smart mobs in the streets of Manhattan during the Republican National Convention. I think it’s brilliant theater, brilliant politics, and, most of all, it brings some FUN to this grim, divided, portentous election season.
