Schwarzenegger calls legislators “girlie men”

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger mocked his opponents in the California Legislature on Saturday as “girlie men,” and called upon voters to “terminate” them at the polls in November if they don’t pass his $103-billion budget.

What a pompus, backward blowhard! Hey Arnold, here’s a tip; insulting lawmakers isn’t the best way to get their vote. It seems Ah-nold is discovering the real world doesn’t behave like a movie set where “stars” are pampered and cuddled regardless of how childish their behavior. Thus he is having a temper tantrum upon learning Sacramento doesn’t play by the same rules.

Elton John attacks ‘censorship’ in US

Elton John has said stars are scared to speak out against war in Iraq because of “bullying tactics” used by the US government to hinder free speech.

“There’s an atmosphere of fear in America right now that is deadly. Everyone is too career-conscious,” he told New York magazine, Interview.

Sir Elton said performers could be “frightened by the current administration’s bullying tactics”

Or by their record label intimidating them into not releasing antiwar songs or by radio station networks refusing to play them or by venues too timid to book them or by…

There is, of course, lots of powerful of antiwar music being made. However, it doesn’t get mainstream airplay. Check Thurston Moore’s (Sonic Youth) website. He has dozens of antiwar songs online, all are available in mp3 format and are free and legal to download.

<Elton John> likened the current “fear factor” to McCarthyism in the 1950s.

Even more reason to speak out.

Gaza

Gaza

Things appear nearly out of control in Gaza. Then again, maybe what we are seeing is reformists/militants moving to control the new government. Which means things might not be as chaotic as they seem.

Gaza kidnappings trigger crisis

Gaza demonstrators demand reforms

Thousands have taken to the streets throughout Gaza City on Saturday demanding accountability and reforms, including the replacement of Palestinian President Yasir Arafat.

Arab newspapers alarmed by Gaza “chaos”

Arabic-language newspapers on Saturday expressed alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the Gaza Strip following Friday’s spate of abductions by militants.

Analysis: Gaza power struggle

Everyone here agrees that the current tensions are linked to Israel’s plans to end its occupation of Gaza.

Some analysts feel that the kidnappings were a show of strength by militant groups.

But other analysts say that what we are witnessing is more a power struggle within Mr Arafat’s Fatah movement.

Update: It appears the miltants are seriously challenging Arafat.

Gunmen burn Palestinian offices in Gaza

Militants sacked and burned Palestinian government offices Sunday, the latest sign of growing anger over Yasser Arafat’s decision to reach into his old guard and choose a loyalist relative as new security chief.

One-way glass toilet!

One-way glass toilet!

Via email

Here’s a picture of a public toilet in Switzerland that’s made entirely out of one-way glass. No one can see you in there, but when you are inside, it looks like you’re sitting in a clear glass box.
