September 25-28: Marches and rallies…

September 25-28: Marches and rallies across the U.S. and around the world

Demos in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, Boston and more!

On Sep 25-28 there will be worldwide anti-war protests and rallies. Starting in the Middle East on Thu Sep 25, they will spread to Europe on Sat Sep 27, and to the U.S. on Sun Sep 28.

ANSWER L.A. will hold a march and rally in Hollywood. Assemble at Hollywood and Vine on Sun Sep 28 at Noon.

I’m an ANSWER L.A. volunteer. The buzz on this one is building fast. We have 8 co-sponsoring groups and over 80 endorsing organzations with more coming. Summer is over and discontent with the all-war-all-the-time policies of the loonie birds in DC is becoming widespread. Let’s make this a weekend of huge demos across the planet.

Here in L.A, we’ve already printed and handed out tens of thousands of flyers and hundreds of posters, and will distribute thousands more. We have organized phone teams calling people to let them know about Sept 28. On top of all of this, we are organizing the event itself; permits, stages, sound equipment, etc. We’re going into the final mobilization push now, so things are getting a bit crazed, but we’ve been here before…

Shameless pitch: Of course, in order to get all of this done, we have to rely on contributions. So, if you live in L.A. (or even if you don’t), you can contribute using PayPal. There’s also t-shirts and books on the website.

PS I’m the webmaster for the ANSWER LA website, can you tell???

Senate votes to repeal new…

Senate votes to repeal new media ownership rules

The Senate approved a resolution Tuesday to repeal media ownership rules critics say could lead to a wave of mergers and ultimately stifle diversity and local viewpoints in news and entertainment.

Defying a White House veto threat, the Senate voted 55-40 to undo changes to Federal Communications Commission regulations governing ownership of newspapers and television and radio stations. Those rules already have been placed on hold by a federal appeals court

This is a HUGE victory. Hundreds of thousands of people faxed, emailed, and called their legislators. People from all across the political spectrum. Entrenched interests got a wake-up call from the populace.

This is one more indication the Bush Administration is losing their grip on power. Six months ago they could have blocked this from happening. Today, they no longer have the clout.
