Senators seek to reverse FCC ruling

This could be HUGE. Open rebellion in the ranks. Republicans included.

“A bipartisan group of senators opposed to television networks expanding their reach expressed confidence they had the votes to roll back a rule adopted by communications regulators Monday.”

Republican Senators to probe U.S. claims of Iraq MWD’s

“Contending that the credibility of the Bush administration may be at risk, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said Sunday that his panel will investigate the United States’ failure to find evidence of chemical and biological weapons in Iraq.

Sen. John W. Warner (R-Va.), in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, stressed that he remains “of the opinion there has been no deception by the administration.” However, he added, “the situation is becoming one where the credibility of the administration and Congress is being challenged.”

Warner said increasing concern that the intelligence on Iraq was manipulated or flawed warrants an investigation of “the credibility of the information provided by both the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency.”

He is requesting that the hearings be conducted jointly with the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He said that he had discussed the matter with Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), chairman of the intelligence panel, and that Roberts was “receptive to the idea.”

When Republican Senators are questioning Bush, along with major print media, asking just where are the MWD’s, then you know there is an internal war in D.C. It looks like some/many in the power elite are asking serious questions about Bush’s credibility - and that can only be good.

Would it be too much to ask that Democratic Senators do the same? What is wrong with them? Why aren’t they SCREAMING about this stuff?

Is Bush deliberately causing a…

Is Bush deliberately causing a fiscal meltdown?

From a L.A. Times Op-ed by Ronald Brownstein

“Is George W. Bush deliberately trying to run up the federal deficit with the new tax cuts he signed into law last week?

That allegation is beginning to bubble up throughout Washington. Among critics, the theory is that Bush privately welcomes the record deficits — up to $500 billion a year — projected in the tax cut’s wake. The reason: The shortfalls could make it tougher for Democrats to advance new spending initiatives and create a climate more conducive to Bush’s calls for restructuring Social Security and Medicare.

The Financial Times of London started this ripple when it wrote recently that the most conservative Republicans would welcome a “fiscal crisis” that provides a justification for cutting spending.”

The Financial Times of London has major cred, and it is stomach-turning to understand that the thugs in the White House want a financial train wreck as a pretext for cutting social spending.

Ethanol

Ethanol

“Like it or not, ethanol is coming to the nation’s gas tanks, courtesy of the U.S. Congress.

A measure requiring the corn-based fuel to be added to the gasoline supply is expected to survive a challenge in the Senate this week, despite objections from lawmakers representing coastal states. They say that transporting ethanol from the Corn Belt to the East and West coasts could drive up prices at the pump and that the plan serves no purpose other than to curry favor in some politically important Midwestern states.”

And it also provides a renewable home-grown source for fuel and cuts reliance on foreign sources. A good idea, I’d say!

Detainees abused after 9/11

Detainees abused after 9/11

“Justice Department’s own report critical of agency

The Justice Department mistreated some of the hundreds of foreigners detained after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a report released Monday by the department’s own inspector general.

Glenn A. Fine’s 198-page report found that some of the 762 mostly Middle Eastern men held on immigration violations faced a “pattern of physical and verbal abuse” and were held for excessive periods without being informed of the charges they faced.”

Yet another example of the stunning hypocrisy of the current Administration in D.C., as they’d scream (then probably invade) any country that did the same to U.S. citizens.
