Going back to Iraq

Going back to Iraq

Expat Iraqis are going  back to Baghdad now, to fight the war against the invaders.

And it’s not just Iraqis either

“The report that 4,000 suicide volunteers are in Iraq is more an exotic idea than a strategic threat at this stage, but it is raising fears of an Afghanistan-style scenario. According to Turkish and Jordanian military sources, Iraq could attract every organization and fragment group that has not found a military operating field since Afghanistan.

Iraq may turn into the next focus of Al-Qaida activity,” said a senior Jordanian source. “Now there is a dangerous combination of radical Islamic rulings calling for jihad, a state in which every citizen carries arms, the lack of ability to distinguish between an innocent civilian and an activist in an organization, and an abundance of American targets.”

A serious military view of…

A serious military view of the war - from a weblog!

John Robb’s Radio Weblog has some excellent military tactics comments on the war. Robb spent 20 years in the Air Force (and also founded Radio UserLand, the software that runs this blog).

One comment from his blog, he has lots more

“Given the expected extended pause in ground operations, the greatest danger to the war effort isn’t terrorism or guerilla attacks.  Rather, it is the potential that our withering air campaign against the Republican Guard will cause Saddam to withdraw them to the safety of Baghdad.  If that happens, the recrimination and consternation regarding this operation will be robustly intense (and make the last couple of days of media frenzy regarding troop allocations look sallow in comparison).”

I’m back

I’m back

I got flattened for the past 36 hours by what I call the death flu.  But I’m ok now.

It hit me right after I got back from helping organize the march and rally on Sunday. So, this was caused either by 1) the black ops people from military intel spraying deadly toxins on us protestors or 2) me being a doofus and not drinking enough water on that 90 degree day, and giving myself a case of heat exhaustion.

Much as I love a good conspiracy, I’m leaning towards explanation number two. Sigh.

Belgian has nine operations to…

Belgian has nine operations to look like Michael Jackson

“A Belgian man is about to have the last of nine operations which he hopes will make him look like Michael Jackson.

Emmanuel De Reyghere, 30, will have his nose reconstructed to make it look just like Jackson’s.

Mr De Reyghere, from Zuienkerke, said: “It’s the last surgery I need. The doctor will break my nose and rasp it to get a bone structure.

“Then my nose will be the same as Michael Jackson’s. It’ll be perfect.”
