Cynical immigration bill trades billions for votes

US-Mexico-Nogales-Border

In a truly stomach-turning display of pork politics, Democrats will sacrifice $30 billion to get fifteen Republican votes for an immigration bill that won’t solve much of anything anyway.

And good luck trying to seal the extremely rugged Arizona border, where the desert is filled with a multitude of things that bite, stab, and sting and temperatures reach 115 in the summer. Plus, a considerable part of the AZ-Mexico border is Tohona land which straddles the border and which the Border Patrol can only enter with their permission.

The Senate is poised to approve a military-style buildup along the U.S. border with Mexico, doubling the number of Border Patrol agents on the ground and tripling the number of drones overhead — a $30-billion plan designed to win the votes of as many as 15 Republican senators for the immigration reform bill.
