The witness says Hastings was going extremely fast, as in the speedometer was pegged. There were sparks from the underside of the car before he lost control and there were no other cars on the road.
I used to live in LA and have driven the intersection of Melrose and Highland many times. It’s just not the kind of intersection you want to approach going 100+ mph. yet that’s what happened.
