Britain, Germany, and Scotland continue to zoom ahead of the United States in offshore wind installations. A new wind farm in Britain, the London Array is now operational and will soon be the biggest on the planet. As readers of this blog know, the US still has no offshore wind. It would just be wrong were we to stop arguing long enough to actually get something accomplished.
Once completed, the first phase will see around 175 wind turbines installed about 12 miles off the coasts of Kent and Essex in the Thames Estuary, generating enough electricity to power more than 470,000 homes.
