Nicholas Ivie, murdered Border Patrol agent

Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie has been identified as the agent killed last night in Arizona near the Mexico border while he and others agents were investigating a tripped ground sensor.

Last night, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection family suffered the loss of Border Patrol Agent Nicholas J. Ivie at the hands of criminals operating on the border near Naco, Arizona. Another agent was also wounded and was treated at a local hospital. Agent Ivie died in the line of duty, protecting our nation against those who threaten our way of life. His death only strengthens our resolve to enforce the rule of law and bring those responsible to justice. Our thoughts and prayers are with Agent Ivie’s family and friends in this difficult time. – Deputy Commissioner Aguilar

That area of Arizona near Mexico is not only a deeply inhospitable desert with little water and fierce heat and multiple ways to get bitten, stabbed, and stung, it’s also becoming a no man’s land. Venture in there at your own risk.

“I lost a friend last night, and his children won’t have a father,” said Dr. Jarrett Hamilton of Sierra Vista, a friend of Ivie’s.

Ivie had recently been called to serve in his LDS Church ward in Arizona. He leaves a wife and two small daughters.

This will almost certainly escalate the violence further.
