FEMEN. Feminist protest from Ukraine

FEMEN is like Pussy Riot; fierce, uncompromising, and courageous.

FEMEN is a feminist Ukrainian protest group based in Kiev, founded in 2008. The organisation became internationally known for organizing topless protests against sex tourists, religious institutions, international marriage agencies, sexism and other social, national and international topics.

FEMEN justifies its provocative methods stating “This is the only way to be heard in this country. If we staged simple protests with banners, then our claims would not have been noticed.”

Cryptome has photos from several of their protests.

Police officers detain activists of Ukrainian group Femen trying to protest at a polling station in Moscow, March 4, 2012, shortly after Russia’s Prime Minister and presidential candidate Vladimir Putin cast his ballot. The sign on the front girl reads: ‘I steal for Putin!’ The slogan reffers to the term ‘party of crooks and thieves’ to describe Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party.
