On the absurdity of thinking electoral politics solves anything

Lawyers, Guns, and Money disagrees with Doug Henwood’s contention that hoping change will come via electoral politics is a fool’s game. Henwood uses the Wisconsin debacle as an example.

What Lawyers, Guns and Money misses is that the higher strata of labor unions along with Democratic party leadership no longer supports militant organizing or strikes and instead invariably supports existing power relations.

They are embedded into the existing system, profit mightily from it, and don’t want change. Plus, as mentioned yesterday, the Democratic Party’s primary function is to defuse genuine dissent and render it harmless. This system can not be changed from within, the change must be forced from outside it.
