Lugar and the Washington disease of remoteness

I have no sympathy for ex-senator Lugar who was so out of touch that he couldn’t even be bothered to live in the state he supposedly represents. He deserved to lose and is the poster child for how D.C. operates. Politicians live there in a bubbles isolated from their constituencies.

Had Lugar lived at least part-time in Indiana and spent time there each year, he and his staff probably would have seen the primary threat coming months ago. But instead he galloped back to Indiana in the final days but by then it was too late.,
