US military wants alternative energy sources

The US Navy wants 50% of their energy from alternative sources by 2020. They expect this will save money over time, as well as making them vastly less dependent on foreign oil. Other branches of the military have similar initiatives. This could jump-start domestic use of alternative energy too in much the same way that the Internet was developed by the military and then went global.
