Scottish National Party wins huge, Lib Dems and Labour clobbered

Unprecedented, seismic, historic, watershed moment – these are the words that have poured out of the mouths of political commentators, politicians, and historians alike as not just Scotland but the whole of the UK comes to terms with the scale of the SNP’s victory in the Scottish elections.

The SNP is solidly left-wing. When the Royal Bank of Scotland cratered in 2007, it took hopes of Scottish independence and the SNP down with it. Now, just four years later, the SNP is resurgent.
