Australia: US responsible for cable leaks, not Wikileaks

Surprisingly blunt words from a major ally.

“Mr. Assange is not himself responsible for the unauthorized release of 250,000 documents from the US diplomatic communications network. The Americans are responsible for that. The bad people in this little exercise are the people who gave the information to him, because they’re the people who breached the trust. They deserve to be chased and prosecuted,” said Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd.

Indeed, many countries are no doubt pondering apparent non-existent American security and what this means for them, since three million people had secret clearance to the cables and no one noticed they were being downloaded in bulk. Most public high schools probably have better security than that.
