SAP faces huge fine for illegally downloading and selling Oracle software

It appears we have yet another major corporation that essentially is a continuing criminal enterprise.

The jury yesterday awarded [$1.3 billion in] damages after an 11-day trial in federal court in Oakland, California. Oracle sued SAP in 2007 claiming its U.S.-based unit made hundreds of thousands of illegal downloads and several thousand copies of Oracle’s software to avoid paying licensing fees and steal customers.

The DoJ may bring criminal charges, sources say. Um, why is there any hesitation to do do? SAP admitted to the theft. Downloading hundreds of thousands of copies of software illegally to be resold is hardly something that happened accidentally. The corruption in the business world will not end until those responsible go to prison. I say, file RICO charges against SAP.
