Eaton and Peterbilt have teamed together to create a hybrid hydraulic system for garbage trucks. It stores 75% of the kinetic energy released through the truck’s frequent braking, saving $3,000 a year in maintenance costs and $9,000 in fuel consumption, as well as reducing emissions. The trucks cost %40,000 more than standard models, but with the savings and a Recovery Act grant, the payback comes in three years.
