Wake up call in Massachusetts

HuffPo

How could the health care issue have turned from a reform that was going to make Barack Obama ten feet tall into a poison pill for Democratic senators?

Whether or not Martha Coakley squeaks through in Massachusetts on Tuesday [today], the health bill has already done incalculable political damage and will likely do more. Either way, the Massachusetts surprise should be a wake-up call of the most fundamental kind.

Obama needs to stop playing inside games with bankers and insurance lobbyists, and start being a fighter for regular Americans. Otherwise, he can kiss it all goodbye.

Isn’t it clear by now that Obama is not misguided or accidentally doing the wrong thing, as the above implies. He’s not “playing inside games” and needs to stop being a bad boy and get with the program. He is an inside player himself, part and parcel of the same system that has been siphoning money from us to a few kleptocrats.

Strong words? Well, look at his actions. At every step and whenever possible, the Obama Administration has shoveled money to the financial world, refused to indict even the most obvious of the bankster criminals, and done nothing while they took bloated and obscene bonuses for themselves. I mean, when several investment bank CEOs couldn’t even be bothered to appear at a White House meeting he convened and then phoned in, he thanked them for doing so. The junior partner showing deference to the real power, apparently.

So, it’s hardly surprising when more and more people are getting angry at all of this. As for the health care reform bill. Seems like a pork-laden heap of problematic ‘solutions’ to me. Let’s see, there will be a tax on Cadillac plans (the definition of which changes like most of us change socks) except that members of major unions are now exempt for the tax for ten years. Oh gosh, that seems fair and equitable to me. Or was that yesterday’s plan? BTW, does anyone know what’s actually in the bill? Didn’t think so.

So now Coakley may lose. She’s run a terrible campaign. The Democratic Party in Massachusetts was both arrogant and asleep. The health care plan is opposed by more and more people. Obama sits by as banksters continue to loot.

So why is it a surprise that Coakley may lose?
