I’m not saying Brown is a populist, not hardly. But the populist anger and rage that fueled his victory can no longer be denied as being real – and it’s spreading. Sorry Crooks and Liars, while you do a great job on many things, you are dead wrong about the Tea Partiers. They are not a tiny fringe manipulated by Republican operatives, but rather a genuine phenomenon. Their message is spreading too. Mistrust of the government. Mistrust of the banksters. The left needs to jump on board. Or be left behind.

Really? I don’t think populist anger and rage did anything for this election. I think Democratic apathy had a much larger hand in this than anger or rage. From everything I’ve seen, the number of votes was much lower that in most past elections, with far fewer Democrats coming out to the polls. Add that to a poorly run campaign on Coakly’s side, and I’m thinking it’s a lot more of apathy and people just not caring than anger.
The wind blows, but I don’t think even half of this is because of the “awesome power of the teabag movement”. I think you’re giving them a lot more credit than they’re due.
I meant more that the Tea Partiers are the most obvious expression of a growing populist movement, which includes many others than just them.
