Hundreds of servers will be located underground in bwdrock beneath Helsinki. The prodigious heat from them will be captured and used in the cit’s netwqork of warm-water pipes for home heating.
“It is perfectly feasible that a quite considerable proportion of the heating in the capital city could be produced from thermal energy generated by computer halls,” said Juha Sipila, project manager.
This is a double win, because then the servers don’t need nearly as much air conditioning to keep them cool.
