That murdered census worker. Better stay away from Copperhead Road

Bill Sparkman, the census worker who was murdered in Kentucky, was found naked, bound and gagged, and hanging from a rope. “Fed” was written on his chest in ink.

Liberal bloggers, with no proof, have tried to pin this on hysteria drummed up by Glenn Beck and the extreme right, but the answer is probably much more that he was in a rural area with meth labs and it was marijuana harvest time.

From Boars Head Tavern, a blogger in the area

This is an area where it wouldn’t be too hard to find fifty people living off the Federal government and fifty people across the creek ready to shoot any DEA agent that stops to use the phone,.

What it’s NOT is about Glenn Beck, etc. I assure you that few people of the sort who would kill a census worker are concerned with Mr. Beck. They are probably more concerned with why their cousin is in prison or why they aren’t getting paid for running dope any more.

Copperhead Road – Steve Earle
(In the song, his grandfather and father were bootleggers, he comes back from Vietnam and starts growing marijuana)

Well the D.E.A.’s got a chopper in the air
I wake up screaming like I’m back over there
I learned a thing or two from ol’ Charlie don’t you know
You better stay away from Copperhead Road
