The real-time web just took a major leap forward.

WordPress.com blogs (and there are 7.5 million of them) now support instant updates via RSSCloud. If you have a WordPress.org blog, you can use the RSS Cloud plugin.

So now, rather than waiting, say, an hour or so for your new blog post to be picked up by spiders for feed readers, it now happens instantaneously. And this is just a start.

We’re also going to be supporting other ways for people to get push notifications (Jabber, email, Weblogs.com pings, SUP, pubsubhubbub, Twitter”¦ who knows what else) so people will be able to find out about and visit your new blog posts as soon as possible, making blogging a more real-time experience. Since RSS Cloud is so easy to add to RSS, it seemed like a good place to start.

This is a seriously big deal. Information on the web can now move at real-time speed.
