That’s not haze but smog in the background being sucked into the Mohave desert through San Gorgonio Pass near Palm Springs, CA. The hot desert air then forces the smog into the sky where it dissipates. In the background is 10,834 ft. San Jacinto. The hot desert temperatures sucking in air from Los Angeles and Orange County combined with the natural funnel created by the large surrounding mountains means the wind here is always blowing and always strong.
There are 3,218 wind turbines in San Gorgonio Pass delivering 615 MW (as of Jan. 2008.) And more every time we drive here. It’s quite amazing.
