Antiwar protests yesterday. Turnout small

The numbers were underwhelming. Only about 4,000 each in LA and SF, and thousands (not the usual tens of thousands) at the main protest in DC.

The SF Chronicle said the turnout was “massive” in SF but then said the march was just three blocks long. Bzzzt. I mentioned that to a friend here in SF and he said, leave it to the Chron to screw up a story.

This AP video said it was “hundreds” of people in DC but that’s silly. Other media said “thousands.” Mostly, the protests were ignored by the media.

People aren’t focused on the war now. If you want a successful demonstration in these times, then the economy, the criminals on Wall Street, and the recession need to be a major part of it. If not, then you’re just preaching to a dwindling choir.
