If we want the internets to keep running, we need to find more power fast.
Datacenter logistics are this decade’s most important inevitable catch-22. The more servers are running, the more power is consumed, which generates more heat that needs cooling, which again requires power consumption and so on.
Energy conservation helps here, but isn’t the entire answer, unfortunately.
I gather that what is also in play is moving these centres to places of cheaper operating costs — both for labour and energy inputs. So that there’s a growth in their placement in India for instance and more are planned for China.
