Dear aging rock stars

While I realize some 60’s-70’s rock stars might have fallen on comparatively barren financial times (while others are worth hundreds of millions), would you all please give it deep thought before permitting yet another advertiser to use your songs in a commercial?

Since this probably won’t happen (yes, I know they offer astounding amounts of money,) here are the Polizeros suggestions for maximizing profit by matching the song to the advertiser.

“Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” (Beatles) – De Beers.

“Heroin” (Velvet Underground) – Partnership for a Drug Free America (as an example of what NOT to do.)

“Got My Cock in My Pants” (Stooges) – Trojan condoms.

“I’m a Cadillac” (Mott the Hoople) – well, duh!

“Mercedes Benz” (Janis Joplin) – Or has this already been used in an ad? It’s soo hard to be satirical when reality keeps doing it for you.

“Happiness is a Warm Gun” (Beatles) – National Rifle Association.

“Communications Breakdown” (Led Zepplin) – any wireless telco that wants to bash the competition’s service.

  1. Sad to see Iggy’s already turned up in a number of ads.

But may I suggest, in conjunction with the upcoming election (any or all candidates): The Sex Pistols, “Pretty Vacant.”

“There’s no point in asking, you’ll get no reply…
We’re pretty– pretty vacant, and we don’t care!”

  2. A few more from more recent bands:
“Enter Sandman” (Metallica) – Ambien prescription sleep aid

“Daddy” (Korn) – Focus on the Family
